so far I've only painted walls, so I'm a loss here. A friend of mine recommended me to a friend of his that wanst his floor painted. I'm no stranger to any painting techniques, but I am stranger to materials and prep. How do you paint a floor?

You know what, it's actually just pretty similar although at face value it looks different. You still need to go through the trouble of ckeaning, repairs if there are damages, you even needa etch for concrete floors and sand if wood! Then there's just a different paint requirements what lol for the floor type. Primer, paint, seal (highly reco) and then let it cure!

depends on what kind of floor your friend has. if it's concrete floor you can use expoxy, but if its wooden floor, ofc you need different paint

Agree with this but also agree with @dividedby that you can just easily sand if wood. I mean it's not easily, but it's obviously the way to go instead of leaving it smooth and messing up the paint.

If we're talking about hardwood like some of the guys are guessing, I say it's a different ballgame from painting walls!
The process involves sanding down the existing finish to bare wood, just to be more specific.
Then you apply stains for the desired color and you have to seal it with multiple coats of a protective finish like polyurethane.
I have to stress all these are crucial if you want the color to penetrate the wood, and then the topcoats provide the necessary durability for foot traffic!
