A good buddy of mine commissioned me to restore his grandparents' old wood house. It has a rough wood ceiling, never been treated. It's incredibly dry, and in some areas, it's actually starting to turn to dust. I don't specialize in old wood, but I'm considering to apply a coat of linseed oil to help rejuvenate it. After that cures for a few days, I'd then apply a clear coat of the urethane resin varnish I've successfully used on other projects. Has anyone tackled a similar situation with old, dry wood? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!
