wooden paint suggestions

im trying to paint an old wooden cabinet from my grandmother and i already made the sanding and now i dont know where to proceed. should i use a primer then color or i should go directly with color and what type? Im lost here ladies and gents i'm going to need help

I've seen people skipping the primer and be happy with the results but I'd say go with the primer. oil or a shellac based one would be my preferred choice
