Water stain bleeding through Kilz MAX?

I'm painting on drywall with heavy water stains, and I'm concerned if Kilz MAX is good for coverage? It claims to be very good at sealing and hiding water and even smoke stains

I've tried other brands before and I had mixed results. Kilz MAX isn't also the cheapest choice but it might be worth the buck if it does its job, right?

Anyone got an idea?

Kilz MAX is decent for sealing stains, but if you're dealing with heavy water stains, you might still see some bleed-through. It works better on light stains, but for tougher ones, an oil-based primer like Zinsser BIN (shellac-based) or Kilz Original (oil-based) might perform better. Shellac primers are the most effective at blocking stains completely. If you've already applied Kilz MAX and still see stains, try a second coat or spot-treat with shellac primer before topcoating. Have you prepped the surface properly, or are you painting over an unsealed stain?

Yeah, Kilz MAX does the job, period. If you're dealing with serious water stains, stop wasting time with the budget stuff. Kilz MAX is shellac based, sticks to anything, blocks stains cold, and doesn't mess around. Is it pricey? Sure but you want results or just want to repaint that stain again in 6 months? your call.

Great choice with the Kilz MAX and applying that double coat. It should really provide you with great coverage and sealing. Definitely let us know how it turns out
