Painting over a client's job without texture, need advice

I ran into a bit of a situation and could use some input. I was working on a project for a client where texture was supposed to go down before painting, but something went wrong, whether it was miscommunication, a mistake, or just bad luck, the texture is no longer an option. Now, the client still wants the job done, but I'm wondering if painting straight onto the surface without texture is going to look off or cause any issues, has anyone dealt with this before? and would a specific primer or technique help blend things better?, I want to make sure the final result still looks professional, but also don't want to overpromise if it's going to be a problem. advice would be appreciated

go for a high quality primer to ensure the paint bonds and you get a nice coverage and make sure to clean the surface before doing anything
