painters putty vs spackle, which is better

My friend is kind of old school, he uses to putty to fill the nail holes. While I usually use spackle and sand it down, I think it’s more effective, don’t you think? Which one do you prefer, painters putty vs spackle?

I do like spackle over putty. Putty is indeed too old school. If you want something that's gonna dry faster and also sand smoother, you should go for spackle ) Putty is flexible but it's really hard to sand and may even shrink through time. Not recommending it

It's not like putty doesn't work, it does, but spackle is better and faster. I get the old school method, but we gotta evolve sooner or later. Don't get me wrong, I've used putty to plug some holes, so i'm not talking nonsense

yeah, I'm with the spackle and sand. it's faster and more effective. even my boomer dad don't use putty anymore

I also support spackle because it blends better with paint, dries faster, and sands cleaner. If you need flexibility, painter's putty works well for wood trim, however, spackle is simply easier and neater for nail holes
