i got a painter to smooth out one of mu walls and he did an excellent job at first. The problem was that he didn't clean off the dust before applying the primer, so now the wall isn't smooth, I'm pissed and I want to take care of this. What's the best course of action?

look, I think you should confront the painter, point out the dust issue, and demand they fix it, if they refuse, withhold payment until it's done right, don't really let them off easy

Let the painter know. It's their shortcoming. Any proof they didn't clean off the dust that would make your case with them stronger is highly recommended. Bring out CCTV if you got it. Don't pay yet.

That definitely needs re-priming, just so you know

What's your location? Do you need a contractor?
