how to make pine look similar to alder?

I'm thinking about renovating the kitchen for wifey bcs we haven't done anything to it since the first time we lived here 20 years ago.

My wife wants to have a big kitchen window that is pine looking similar to clear coated alder.

Does anyone know how to make pine look similar to alder?

i have never done that but a neighbor did, and it turned out great. He says that the pine needs to be smoothly sanded starting with 120 grid paper then with 180 ans 220 at the end but don't add to much pressure since pine is soft. Then you need to apply a pre-stain wood conditioner because pine can have a lot of blotches after painting, that's why this step is a must. For the paint make a mix of natural and golden pecan as a base and then add a touch of red for that alder look. Apply the color and wipe it really fast after applying so that it doesn't turn too dark. Finally, add a clear finish coat and you're done. Hope this helps, would like to see the end result

I think just use a dark stain, either walnut or cherry. That's a very specific request from your wife btw. Why can't it just be alder?

I hope it's not too late to throw in some ideas! I understand the pressure to grant your wife's wish and keep her satisfied!
Considering pine and alder have different natural tones and grain patterns, I would start by using a clear or a very lightly tinted wood conditioner.
Then, you might want to consider a very subtle stain with a neutral or slightly reddish undertone to nudge the pine's color towards alder!
Finish with a clear topcoat to protect the wood without adding much color. Maybe try a satin or semi-gloss polyurethane?
And as I always recommend, it's best to test this on some scrap pieces to make sure you achieve your desired effect before applying it to the real thing!
